IN CASE OF EMERGENCY

IN THE UNLIKELY EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY,  ADULT VOLUNTEERS WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR CLASSES AND WILL NEED TO KNOW WHAT TO DO TO STAY SAFE.
SCENARIO 1: LOCK DOWN

If you hear commotion outside of your classroom or hear the command “Lock Down”:

  • IMMEDIATELY lock your door and turn off the lights.
  • Move your class to a safe space out of sight.
    • Restrooms, if available, should be the first choice.
    • Otherwise, hide under tables directly below the interior windows (this keeps all out of sight and shields from broken glass).
  • Keep children silent.
  • Set phone to silent but keep it nearby in case someone is trying to contact you.
  • Stay in place until you are certain the incident has passed.  You will be notified via text/phone call or verbally BY NAME when it is safe to end the lockdown.
  • Dismiss children only when you are certain they are being released to the proper adult. (Ask to see their tickets).

SCENARIO 2: EVACUATE

If staying in place puts children at risk, teachers must facilitate an orderly evacuation:

  • Turn off lights, but DO NOT lock doors.
  • Bring your roster print out if you have it and your phone. Do not take the time to gather other items.
  • Walk your class quickly and quietly out the exterior doors at the end of the worship center and proceed to the bottom of the parking lot closest to Foothills Blvd. (Specific evacuation routes are posted in classrooms and hallways).
  • If possible, position one teacher at the head of the line and one at the end.
  • Encourage children to behave as they have likely practiced at school.
  • Keep your class together until parents/guardians arrive and you are certain they are being released to the proper adult.  (Ask to see their tickets).

CPR TRAINING AVAILABLE

We would like as many of our volunteers to be certified in CPR as possible.  If you would like to receive the training (at our expense), let us know!
